Collective Thoughts

Today is just one of those days where I have SO much to do that it's all whirling around in my head and I cannot possibly be productive unless I get all of the things I need to do all out on paper...or...blog...yeah..

I'm taking just a short break at work so this can't be toooo long. So I'll start with what's new.

Life's been going fairly smoothly the past year or two, but things ALWAYS change. They just do. That's how life goes. Jake's company has zero jobs so about a month ago they let him go on "conditional unemployment" which basically means they could call him back whenever they have work, but it's not 40 hour weeks and nothing guaranteed by any means. So he's on unemployment right now. I was in shock when I heard that basically he doesn't have a job anymore considering we own a house together and pay lots of bills each month. Somehow I've been able to hold us down, and his first unemployment check came today! Yay! It's considerably less than what he was making before, but it will help me pay the bills for sure. We're nowhere even close to losing the house (at this point!!) so that's a good thing :). If all else fails we can start getting rid of netflix, internet, digital cable...luxury items.

But I have to say, since Jake has all this free time during the day now, he's been doing SO much stuff around the house. It's actually nice, giving me a bit of a break too. I don't feel like I have to come home from work all day (and my job is HARD and tasking and tiring even though it's not manual labor) and clean. I've been working a lot of overtime and weekends, too. Granted, it's from home but it's still work.

There was a misconception with some people that Jake and I received a low-doc loan or some type of sub-prime deal and that's how we got our house. But that is definitely not true. We qualified for a regular ol' loan, as in, we made enough money to make the 38% of your income mark, our credit scores were excellent, and we don't hold hardly any other debt (we now own none). That's the reason why you have to have an income buffer when qualifying for a home loan, so that if situations like this come up you don't automatically fall into foreclosure. I would not have bought a house if it wasn't finacnially comfortable, for sure. I guess that's just a pet peeve when people have such low expectations of me haha.

In other news, I've found that I really enjoy riding motorcycles, and not just on the dirt with my TW200. I came across a good deal on a practically brand new 08 Ninja 250R with less than 200 miles on it. So.......I used my savings money and went for it. I thought long and hard about this decision, and figured that I can pay my savings account back in 4 months, which is what I'm doing. I haven't had the time to talk to my parents about it, yet. I know their feelings about me on the roads on a bike, but I wish I could somehow get it through to them that I'm not the average motorcycle rider. I don't take crazy risks. I'm all geared up, follow the laws, am extremely careful, defensive, anticipitory, and I always make sure I have a way out from wherever I am. The funny thing is, the ninja has 50CC more power than my TW, but it's not some crazy crotch rocket. In fact, the ninja is safer- better braking power, brand new, more power for getting out of situations, but not explosive power. So I'll probably get a hold of them today to let them know. I don't like "keeping" things from them, so I don't want to seem like I'm doing that. I just haven't brought it up since I know I'll need some time to talk it through with them and I just haven't had enough time. I know I'm my own person and am independent in every sense of the word, but I still value their opinions and love them and really don't want to make them worry.

Speaking of explosive power, Jake and I were driving home from watching Transformers again in Lynnwood at around 1am early friday morning last week on I-5 and witnessed some crazy stuff go down. We were in the fast lane on I-5 in north everett, at the 41st st bridge. All the sudden this jackass on an R1 comes speeding up behind us and tailgates for a few seconds, then passes us in the carpool lane. He stays at my quarter pannel for a few seconds, not too sure what he was doing, and then sped up and got in front of us. He then slowed way down in front of us, about 60 (we WERE going 70) and attempted to wheelie, but gave it WAY too much gas and flipped over backwards and crashed, hard. Both him and his bike went tumbling accross the freeway. They would have hit us if Jake didn't hit the brakes in my car. I thought for sure he was dead or at least severely broken. Him and his bike rolled across to the right side of the freeway and slammed into the shoulder. He tried to pick the bike up, saw that it was completely totalled and then sprinted off!! Obviously he was guilty or something. Drunk? No endorsement? Probably all of the above. I was going to get out and (after making sure he was alive, of course) yell at him profusely for almost killing ME. He could have wheelied ANYwhere else on the freeway, it was WIDE open, but he HAD to do it RIGHT in front of MY car and ME and JAKE. ASS HOLE. It's ok for you to put your own life at risk, at your own doing, but what gives you the right to put jake and MY lives at risk, too? Asshole. But he ran off before I got the chance to give him a piece of my mind. Probably a good thing he ran. So we stayed for the cops to get there and gave our statements. He's going to get a reckless driving ticket at the least they said :D His bike was COMPLETELY trashed. $13k down the tube. What an idiot.

I will NEVER do stupid stuff like that on my bike.

My manager gave me a heads up that at the beginning of next year our group is doing another reduction in force activity and that at this point, no one is safe, especially a lot of us junior folks. He's doing what he can to save me, but there's only so much he can do. I'm competing with people who have many, many years of experience here. Fresh ideas and a newly printed college degree aren't worth too much around here, or so it seems considering they're looking at getting rid of their college tuition payment program. Luckily, I have some contacts around the company, including a manager that I interviewed with last year who offered me a job (I declined and accepted the position I am currently in) and said that if I ever wanted a job in the dept to contact him. That program is hiring pretty drastically, too, or so it seems. ...it needs to fly pretty soon here...

Anywho. That's about it for the what's new. Jake has an employment opportunity with my dad's company, hopefully. Sounds promising, so we'll see how that turns out :)

As far as what I have to do, I will make a list...for my personal use :D :
  • Revise MBA resume and submit
  • Return tank tops to Kohls
  • Finish mom's website
  • Balance joint account- make sure we have enough to cover July bills
  • Prepare for vacation!!! (make packing list, get another pair of shorts, clean house, etc...)
  • Put aside food and fun money for vacation
  • Steam clean carpets...again
  • Get a plunger
  • Plant avocado tree in dirt and water plants
  • Brush Lily
  • Get a new vet, get animals shots and flea(etc) medicine
  • Reset car's oil change timer
  • Rotate tires
  • Wash car
  • ...

A really good thing is that our vacation is 100% prepaid. I don't know owe anything on it, so that's good. We just need some $ for food and fun, which I DID have lots of $ saved up but I used it on my bike, so I'm currently working on replenishing some of those funds for the trip. We don't need to go CRAZY on the money spending, so it's mainly just food money.

Ok, back to work I go!
